We’re raising at least $1,000 to support NELA Food Distribution through many online and IRL events, and we hope you’ll join us by donating, tuning in, or visiting us in person at one of the following events! About the Fundraiser
NELA Food Distribution is a grassroots organization based in Highland Park, Los Angeles, that collects grocery donations from individuals and local businesses and distributes them to Angelenos who are unable to leave their homes. Most recently, the organization has focused on helping people avoid ICE by helping them stay in their homes with food deliveries. The need for their services has increased exponentially in recent months, and the group is having trouble keeping up with the food demand, as well as the cost of collecting and delivering the items.
In light of the ever-growing violence being conducted by ICE agents in communities around the country, we at Metro Sessions are focusing on fundraising for this organization. NELA Food Distribution is providing such direct and community-oriented mutual aid, and because it is organized by staff at our Tuesday home base, the Offbeat, we are eager to support them. In donating to this campaign, you are helping people avoid being abducted by ICE in one of the most direct ways possible: collections from this fund will go through our organization directly to Vanny Arias who collects the groceries and arranges deliveries, which go directly to those who sign up.
So many of us want to help those affected by these ICE raids the most, and this donation goes to on-the-ground services that help people avoid ICE (not to mention the workers who put themselves in danger by providing these services in the Los Angeles streets daily.)
