Rez Plates: A Native American Plate Pop-Up by Lakotacos

Square

Sunday, December 3, 2023 – 6-10 PM
Spring St, DTLA (Private Location)

Metro Sessions 69 will be one of our most exciting events yet: this Sunday, we’re communing in a DTLA loft for a good cause. We’re combining the Native American food work IllGill has been doing in his professional life with the Southern “plate sale” tradition. Selling plates is a common way to find money and assistance for members of a community, and Rez Plates will help raise money and collect toys for Teacher Nadia’s Holiday Toy Drive for children in the LEAP Center-Based Program. This program provides assistance to toddlers who are behind in meeting certain developmental milestones, as well as their families. Bring toys for children 0-3 years old, and all profits from the plate sale will go to Teacher Nadia to buy toys.

The Lakotacos frybread tacos plate will feature multiple courses developed from recipes handed down to Gill from his family living on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. There will be vegan and meat options available, and each plate will come with a drink and multiple courses.

Plus, special DJ sets from our friends Spence (Austin Boogie Crew) and DJ Abel (Milkcrate Mondays.) Open turntables before and after, so bring 20 minutes of dinner jams to play! (We will have the same setup as we do for Turntable Tuesday.) And we’re streaming the whole thing live on Twitch! RSVP to get the address or tune in if you’re far away. See you Sunday!
