Los Angeles, 2019

A documentary photo essay by Jordan Mendez

Jordan Mendez is an American based photographer documenting from the streets that society has carved out for him.  Jordan grew up in a small Kansas town and moved out to Los Angeles in 2015.  Due to unforeseen circumstances Jordan picked up a camera during a not so easy time of his life and he took out to capture that emotion.

This body of work was made as a report on the human condition, emphasizing our willingness and ability to overcome great adversity while also exposing how few solutions are in place to battle that same adversity for those not as strong or fortunate.  This is Los Angeles at the end of a decade and at the height of homelessness.  All pictures in this series were taken in the working class neighborhoods of Los Angeles in 2019 and shot using a Nikon film camera from the mid 80s which helped to provide a gritty and real feeling to each photograph.
